Gustav Mahler used to live in this historic residential building in Leipzig-downtown / Waldstraßenviertel

The three-storey city villa in Leipzig's best location was built around 1865. The building is on the list of Leipzig historical monuments.

Here lived the famous composer Gustav Mahler in the years 1887 and 1888. During this time Mahler created his "Symphonic Poem" as the original version and the ensuing First Symphony. The movement, which later went into the Second Synphony as a "funeral", also dates back to Leipzig's time by Gustav Mahler.

The premiere of Carl Maria von Weber's opera "Die drei Pintos" (The Three Pintos) by Carl Maria von Weber on January 20, 1888 is the highlight of his work in Leipzig. Gustav Mahler had reconstructed and completed Weber's unfinished work.

The premiere in Leipzig also visited the Saxon royal couple King Albert and Queen Carola.

Despite the overwhelming success Mahler composed in the episode no further opera.

From Leipzig, Mahler moved to Budapest and in 1891 to Hamburg, where he took over the direction of the symphony orchestra.
